This is the first line of a Danish ballad written by Erik Leth, and it brought Bornholm fame as Denmark's loveliest island for holidaying. And not without reason! The island is also known as ‘Sunshine Island’ due to the large number of sunlight hours each year and as ‘The Pearl of the Baltic’ due to its distinctive, fascinating nature and its location right in the middle of the Baltic Sea. Bornholm’s nature is a true blend of all of Scandinavia’s natural habitats, and you will find everything from waterfalls in Døndalen (Døn Valley) to wide, white, sandy beaches along the coast and the vertical Helligdomsklipper (Sanctuary Cliffs).

Our national anthem could not have a better first line: ‘There is a Lovely Country’ (‘Der er et yndigt land’).
Denmark's 8,750 km coastline encircles towns, hills and forests and gives us access to the sea and more than 1,400 islands. From Christiansø and Bornholm in the east to Fanø in the west, there is much to discover for explorers of all ages.

The island has its own charm, and the village of Sønderho, with its old buildings dating back to the 1800s, has also been voted Denmark's most beautiful village. Come and listen to Fanø’s unique music, which flourishes on the island together with traditional dance.

Langeland has no less than 141 km of coast, and Adam Oehlenschläger was actually on Stengade beach when he wrote the famous line ‘Near salty eastern shores’, or as in Danish ‘Nær salten Østerstrand’ from our precious national anthem.
Langeland offers both authentic Danish nature and cultural attractions. The island is particularly famous for its hat-shaped hills, so-called dislocated kames. There are 700 of these hills dotted around the island. And from ‘Eagle Hill’, locally known as ‘Ørnehøj’, you can see the island’s wild horses, which range freely across Langeland. Other popular activities include a visit to Langeland Fort and Tranekær Castle.

You can expect much from a visit to Lolland-Falster. The island offers everything from cultural attractions to active pursuits.
Its 600 km coastline is suitable for all kinds of watersports. And you can take a trip to the islands of Askø-Lilleø, Femø and Fejø from the North Lolland coast. ‘Believe me, Faaborg is a very friendly little town.’ This is what Hans Christian Andersen, the famous Danish writer, said of the town of Faaborg in southern Funen, and luckily the old market town has kept its charm! You can explore the intimate streets and alleys, which offer an abundance of shopping opportunities and speciality shops. The town is a short, 11-minute drive from the ferry terminal in Bøjden.
Faaborg’s watchmen will take you on a tour of the town. Follow the watchman, listen to his songs and hear about the town’s exciting history. The tour is free of charge.
